My Story

As a freelance writer and editor, I have written and edited case studies, newsletters and reports for nonprofits, foundations, universities, city governments and tech companies. My clients — some of whom I have worked with for over a decade — include Family Business Magazine, Silicon Valley Community Foundation and Stanford University. (For more of my clients, check my portfolio.)

I love talking to people: In my years writing for daily newspapers, magazines and websites, I have interviewed both experts and regular people on topics ranging from artificial intelligence to harvesting salt.

I have particular expertise in HR/employment, career management, higher education, nonprofit grantmaking and family businesses. I started my career as an editor for InfoWorld, where I launched a weekly section on tech careers and spearheaded its first compensation survey. Later, I worked as a business reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, covering careers, the workplace, the job market, philanthropy and real estate.

My writing has won awards from Trade Association Business Publications International and the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

I have also taught business writing, essay writing and copy editing for UC Berkeley Extension, and I work with individuals as a business writing coach.

I graduated from Carleton College and UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.
